Coming down from the high country, or high lonesome as it was sometimes referred to by those who live in the mountains, this mountain man, dressed in his finest leather and fur his Hawkens rifle across his saddle, approaches the site of the gathering of mountain men known as the Rendezvous. It's time for whooping it up. Montana mountain men once traveled and trapped beaver. Trapping beaver was a dangerous occupation. Not because of the beaver, but because of the Indians, the isolation, the danger of being attacked by Grizzly, or getting sick from the constant cold of the streams they trapped in. So when it came time to head for Rendezvous, they would try to look their best. There would be women there, and mostly there would be drink to dull the memories of the danger and death that faced all of them every day in the high lonesome.
