I purchased a small metallic figurine at auction. I'm told it's quite old. It's of a winged angel sitting on a stump playing a flute. He has a loincloth going around most of his torso. It has only a tiny amount of iron since it barely sticks to a rare-earth magnet. It sits on an attached base and the underside of the base is felt. It is 20 centimeters or 7.87" high and weighs 24.4 ounces or 1,031 grams. There is no identifying mark. Can anyone tell me anything about it and its value?
Thanks,
Steve

Looking at the appearance of the patina it does not look like a older piece. Looks more like an inexpensive French reproduction. If it sticks to a magnet that is a giveaway it is not bronze.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, this cherub most likely is a cheap reproduction. What troubles me is that upon close examination it looks old and not shinny at all. I realize that some reproductions are made to look old with a chemical patina applied.
Secondly, a regular magnet will not show there is any iron in it. But when placing the strongest of magnets, a rare-earth magnet, it shows there is a small percentage of iron in it but not nearly enough to stick to it. I'm wondering if old pieces made long ago had any iron content in them since bronze was not as purified as it is today. Just a couple of questions that come to mind, that's all.
