How do I tell if I have an original Frederic Remington sculpture?

1) See if there is a foundry mark. The foundry name should be cast into the bronze base. Copies will not have this.
2) Look at the type of base. It is typically bronze. It is rare for an original to be mounted on a marble base.
3) Original bronzes were sequentially numbered (1,2,3, etc) based on demand and not, for instance, 5/100. The single number is usually located under the bronze base.
If you believe you may have an original, you can get it authenticated. If it is of significant value, the cost of the appraisal should include a certificate by the authority that did the authentication. You should get the entire history of the piece and picture to go with it. According to the Frederic Remington Art Museum, the asking price for an authentic/original Remington statue (http://www.allsculptures.com) would be no less than $75,000.
