Hello,
Some one has a bronze Bayre Lion on ebay could anyone give me there opinion as to the authenticity of this piece. I will attach some pictures as well as the description posted on ebay:

Vintage Bronze Lion and Serpent Barbedienne Barye Sculpture (http://www.allsculptures.com)Statue!

This is absolutely gorgeous and a must HAVE piece of art for your bronze collection!

Very nice Vintage Bronze Statue (http://www.allsculptures.com) of a Lion attacking Serpent / Snake.
Signed by maker Antoine Louis Barye: "F. Barbedienne Fondeur (Paris)" right next to this signature there is s stamp "26" and up front "BARYE".
Bottom Signed: "J 12200 (and unknown symbol)" (see pictures), there is also a cross and number "6" incised.
Massive size: 11" by 14"
Weight: 22.4 pounds
This sculpture has a very great quality and execution of detail. Beautiful bronze patina.
This statue does not have a marble or wooden base, not sure if it ever did.

The Auction ended at $3200. If it is authentic it would be an excellent buy. It has all the characteristics of an original, patina looks correct, excellent detail however without comparing it side by side with an original casting it could just be an excellent recast. Even if it was a recast the price is fair for the quality. I noticed the seller didnt post any information as how he came into ownership of the piece. Usually there would be some sort of family history or gallery paperwork to help with authentication. That is the only red flag I see!:)

If the purchaser can get a legitimate appraisal authenticating it as one of the original casting they got a fantastic buy. I would estimate it would bring $10,000 plus at a high end auction house.-Nice Piece!
